The Triduum begins with evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper and continues as one single liturgical celebration through Good Friday, Holy Saturday, the great vigil, and Easter Sunday.
The Mass of the Lord’s Supper celebrates the institution of the Eucharist and of the ordained priesthood. The new oils, consecrated at the Chrism Mass at the cathedral, are presented to each parish for sacramental use: for catechumans, for the sick, for those to be baptized and confirmed.
After reading the Gospel account of Jesus’ washing the feet of His disciples, our celebrant will wash the feet of parishioners from each parish in our family.
“I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do.”
After having received Communion, we leave in silence, following the transfer of the Eucharist to a side chapel where we are asked to spend time with Christ – He has been betrayed, arrested, denied, and then sentenced to death.
